We transformed this Christian Dior cape into a coat!February 1, 2019
We all love a nice cape. This statement piece really never goes out of fashion and is a seriously luxurious outerwear option. While uber chic, the cape is, however, a really impractical garment. It doesn’t keep you warm enough to wear in the winter and it restricts your arm movement making the cape the prime piece that clients regret purchasing! It is beautiful, but there is never a right time to wear it.
One of our clients brought us this gorgeous cashmere cape from the one and only Christian Dior. She bought it one year ago and yet she never wore it. So she asked us to do the impossible: to transform this cape into a coat.
The alteration virgins will think “how hard can it be, you just add sleeves right?”. Well no, not right. Think about it. The arm holes are at located on the front panel for the cape, and for the cape on the side. They are also a totally different shape. Also, finding the right shade of white cashmere is as complicated as finding the perfect white paint. Finally, how do we make it look like those sleeves are part of the design? We certainly wouldn’t want our client walking around in what looks like a cheap Dior. No no, it has to be the exact same finish.
The fabric was found from Joel & Sons (with the help of an incredibly knowledgeable gentleman named Dino, seriously if you need anything fabric related, Dino is your man!)
Well what can I say, our seamstresses are superwomen! They collaboratively did a wonderful job. You can see the pictures for yourself!
